Let’s face it, there’s a lot to look forward to at Thanksgiving. Why not take advantage of this time together as a family and record some memories?
Let’s all join in on The Great Thanksgiving Listen initiated by Story Corps. According to the Story Corps Facebook page, “Our goal over Thanksgiving is to record as many interviews in one weekend as we’ve recorded in the last dozen years. We’ve recorded 65,000 interviews—the largest single collection of human voices ever gathered—and we want to double that.” – StoryCorps Founder Dave Isay on NPR.
According to the StoryCorps announcement about The Great Thanksgiving Liston on their blog this event is “Open to everyone, The Great Thanksgiving Listen is a national assignment to engage people of all ages in the act of listening. The pilot project is specially designed for students ages 13 and over and as part of a social studies, history, civics, government, journalism, or political science class, or as an extracurricular activity. All that is needed to participate is a smartphone and the StoryCorps mobile app.”
While this event is aimed at students, adults can help by encouraging young family historians and helping with interviews.
So how about it? Take some time this Thanksgiving and give a listen.
